v8.0 Minnesota Uniform Companion Guides (MUCGs) Now Available –v8.0 Supersedes all previous versions, effective  January 31, 2014
As announced in the December 30, 2013 Minnesota State Register, Volume 38, Number 38 (PDF: 236KB/30pgs) the five v8.0 MUCGs below have been adopted into rule, effective January 31, 2014.  Version 8.0 will supersede all previous versions, and provide instructions and information for the standard, electronic exchange of health care administrative transactions pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 62J.536.

Advance notice: Limited Exception to Minnesota's Requirements for the Standard, Electronic Exchange of the Eligibility (270/271) Transaction is Continued for 2014. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will be formally announcing in the December 2, 2013 State Register that the above exception, for only the ASC X12N 0005010X279A1 Eligibility Inquiry and Response (270/271) transaction, and only for group purchasers (payers) not subject to federal HIPAA regulations, will be continued in 2014.  This limited exception is granted pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 62J.536.  It is reviewed annually to determine on a year-to-year basis if it will be continued.  The next review is planned for October, 2014, to determine whether the exception will be continued for 2015.

Implementation and Compliance Update #9 (PDF: 262KB/1pgs) regarding payers subject to Minnesota health care "e-billing" requirements - use ICD-10 coding for dates of service on or after 10/01/2014. Includes payers not subject to HIPAA (property-casualty, auto, workers' compensation insurers).

Implementation and Compliance Update #8 (PDF: 253KB/2pgs) regarding Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Encouraged for Health Care Claims. Comply with federal EFT operating rules by January 1, 2014.

Proposed revised companion guide rules and 30-day public comment period announced. MDH published a notice in the September 23, 2013 Minnesota State Register of five proposed revised Minnesota Uniform Companion Guide (MUCG) rules and the start of a 30-day public comment period to comment on the proposed revisions.

"Implementation and Compliance Update" published

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) occasionally publishes information and clarifications regarding the state's requirements for the standard, electronic exchange of health care business (administrative) transactions pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 62J.536. MDH recently issued "Implementation and Compliance Update #7.0" regarding "Compliance with Minnesota Workers' Compensation E-billing Requirements -- Information for Clearinghouses and Others" (PDF: 98KB/2pgs) with important compliance information regarding: claims attachments, use of 5010, D.0, and ICD-10; inappropriate charges; and collecting and posting of clearinghouse information.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) plans to announce in the Minnesota State Register on February 19, 2013 the adoption into rule of version 6.0 of the Minnesota Uniform Companion Guides listed below. Version 6.0 of the rules will supersede all previous versions and will become effective March 21, 2013.

ASC X12/005010X222A1 Health Care Claim: Professional (837) Version 6.0

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announces the adoption into rule of version 6.0 of the Minnesota Uniform Companion Guide for the Implementation of ASC X12N/005010X221A1 Health Care Claim Payment/Advice (835). Version 6.0 supersedes all previous versions and is the version required to be used.
