AUC 2nd and 3rd Quarter 2002 Update
The information contained in
this document represents the major activities of the Minnesota AUC for
the second and third quarter of 2002. Any questions about the AUC can

AUC
DD TAG
The DD TAG will finalize the
revisions to the CMS 1500 manual for publication in fall of 2002. New
items in the manual include: the units grid, updated electronic concordance,
and standard definitions for all fields.
Mental Health Standard Authorization
Form
The Minnesota Universal Outpatient Mental Health/Chemical Health Authorization
Form is complete. The form is available on the AUC website at: http://www.mhdi.org/auc/activity.htm

EOB / REMIT Work Group
The EOB / REMIT work group is continuing its work on the manual for the
standardized paper remittance advice. The paper remittance advice has
been built based on electronic concordance.
HIPAA Update
Nearly all AUC members indicated that they will apply for the HIPAA extension.
NUCC / NUBC
The National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) is debating whether or not
to redo the HCFA 1500 form. Work continues on a national HCFA 1500 manual.
The National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) is circulating a draft of
the UB-02. The State UB Committee (SUBC) is reviewing this draft and making

HCPCS
The HCPCS committee's 3rd Quarter closed items update (January through
September

MHDI
The Minnesota Health Data Institute Board of Directors has voted to cease
operations as of September 30, 2002. MHDI documents will be filed with
the MN Department of Health and the Minnesota Historical Society.
Medicare Part B
CMS is converting to a new claims processing system, the Multi Carrier
System (MCS). CMS hosted several conferences throughout the state to educate
providers.
