QI Leadership Collaborative
The MDH Leadership Collaborative consists of 10 community health boards (CHBs) and two MDH division teams, which participate in a learning collaborative focused on leadership and planning for quality. The teams will strengthen their capacity to lead quality improvement efforts and establish performance and quality improvement systems for better public health practice.
Creating system-wide change will help state, local, and tribal public health agencies better align themselves with the standards and measures outlined by the Public Health Accreditation Board. Specifically, the work under this collaborative will help MDH, CHBs and tribes prepare for meeting Domain 9, which is focused on performance management, evaluation, and quality improvement.

Collaborative Mission
To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public health practice and operations by training state, local, and tribal public health leaders to
- Become a quality improvement champion for a work unit, an agency, and the public health system;
- Use quality improvement planning and methods to improve agency operations;
- Shepherd quality improvement interventions from start to finish;
- Integrate quality improvement into the agency culture and operations.
The Office of Performance Improvement manages the collaborative, with technical assistance and training facilitation from Marni Mason, a national quality improvement consultant. Participating teams receive individualized and focused technical assistance through webinars, in-person learning sessions and conference calls, that will increase the quality improvement capacity and performance of their agency through training in skills such as change management, team coaching, and building a quality culture.
