Advancing Health Equity
Minnesota is one of the healthiest states in the country. However, a statewide assessment has found that not all Minnesotans have the same chances to be healthy. Those with less money, and populations of color and American Indians, consistently have less opportunity for health and experience worse health outcomes.
The Minnesota Legislature in 2013 directed the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and its partners to complete a report about advancing health equity (AHE) in Minnesota.
The report will assess Minnesota’s health disparities and recommend best practices, policies, processes, data strategies, and other steps that will promote health equity for all Minnesotans.
The project officially launched October 22. The report is due to the Legislature February 1, 2014.

MDH will post the draft advancing health equity report for public review and comment in early January. A Community Listening Session is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 7:00 – 9:00 pm (location: TBD). A summary of the comments received on the draft report will be appended to the report.
MDH will also conduct a Webinar on Wednesday, January 22, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, to provide highlights of the draft report and receive comments from the public.
Details about the two opportunities above will be posted on this website as they are available.
Note regarding data privacy: The purpose of the AHE inquiry session questions is to gather information from MDH internal and external community/stakeholder groups and individuals to inform the 2014 AHE Legislative Report. This voluntary questionnaire is being administered by Management Analysis & Development (MAD), an organization external to MDH (but within state government) that provides consulting services for the public sector. Individual names and any information that is submitted in the questionnaire that could be used to identify an individual are protected as private data under the Minnesota Data Practices Act (Minn. Stat. 13.64), and will be removed by a MAD consultant before the information is compiled and forwarded to MDH staff. The Advancing Health Equity Report Team will review and synthesize the information and create a final report. The final report is public.
