Birth Resulting in Stillbirth

Fetal deaths of 20 weeks or more gestation are required to be reported in MR&C. Parents may request a Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth for a fetal death that is required to be reported under Minnesota Statutes, section 144.222.

A fetal death of less than 20 weeks may be entered into MR&C if the parents wish; however, certificates for fetal deaths that are less than 20 weeks gestation are no longer available from the Office of Vital Records.

To assist you in this responsibility and to provide information to parents, information about requesting a certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth is posted on the Office of Vital Records web pages at:

Please refer parents to the web page or print the information on the web page for the parent.
