Hazardous Sites and Substances
Site Assessment and Consultation Unit

The Site Assessment and Consultation (SAC) Unit in the Environmental Health Division of the Minnesota Department of Health is charged with preventing or reducing exposures to hazardous sites and toxic substances for people in Minnesota.

SAC contributes to the Minnesota Department of Health's mission by conducting public health activities related to contaminant releases, including:

Assessing health impacts from exposures to contaminants from hazardous waste sites, landfills, dumps, industrial facilities, and other sites which release hazardous materials.
Investigating exposures to contaminants.
Responding to citizens who petition ATSDR (U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) for a health assessment.
Communicating findings and recommendations to the public and to regulatory agencies.

Chemicals of High Concern - Toxic Free Kids Act

Information about the Toxic Free Kids Act. This Act requires that the Minnesota Department of Health, in consultation with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, generate a list of Chemicals of High Concern and a list of Priority Chemicals.

Environmental Exposure Grand Rounds

Information about presentations and discussions that explore the impact of environmental exposures on health and which foster communication and multidisciplinary collaboration between medical and public health specialties.
