Best Practices to Prevent Environmental Asthma Triggers in Child Care

The Minnesota Department of Health developed "Best Practices to Prevent Environmental Asthma Triggers in Child Care Facilities" as a resource to help child care providers identify and prevent environmental asthma triggers. It can also be used to improve indoor air quality in general. It was developed for child care centers, but most of it applies to home child care.

The best practices consist of the following components:

  1. Model Environmental Asthma Trigger Prevention Plan
    an example plan to make immediate improvements with task-oriented policies and procedures
  2. Building Evaluation Procedure for Asthma Triggers
    a comprehensive and detailed assessment checklist to identify and address asthma triggers and underlying building problems
  3. Other Resources
    links to other resources to learn more about asthma, the indoor environment, and health and safety in child care
