Radon Measurement Providers

Minnesota does not require radon measurement professionals to be licensed, nor is there any oversight of measurement work performed. Although it is not required, a voluntary certification does indicate that the individual has received radon measurement training and has taken continuing radon education. Both the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) and the National Radon Safety Board (NRSB) have voluntary certification programs for radon measurement contractors. For more information regarding the requirements of these certifications, information regarding a specific listed contractor, or an updated list of certified professionals, please contact NRPP or NRSB directly.

Typically, homeowners can purchase radon test kits and perform radon tests for themselves. Radon measurement professionals may be used when an unbiased third party is desired. Some things you should consider when looking for a radon measurement professional are listed below:

  • Are they currently nationally certified?
  • What type of test will be conducted?
  • How will the results be reported to you?
  • Does the radon measurement professional have a quality assurance/quality control plan?
