Lead Poisoning Prevention
Swab Team Services Grant

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has available $359,250 in grant funding to perform swab team services. There is an optional $479,000 in additional funding available the second year of the grant. The grants funds are dependent upon the availability of state lead funds approved by the legislature to MDH. Any awarding of final grant agreements as a result of this Request For Proposal process is subject to final approval by the Commissioner of Health.

MDH’s Swab Team Services Grant provides funding to:

  • increase the screening of children under the age of six years and pregnant women to identify elevated blood lead levels (EBLL) in  populations at high risk,
  • plan, implement, and execute successful lead screening events in communities with high lead exposure,
  • provide education and outreach services regarding the home environment so that residents are protected from lead hazards, and
  • provide swab team services to protect these populations from identified lead hazards in their residences.

To apply for the grant, please read the following document carefully. Complete and submit the Project Narrative and Work Plan Template, the Budget Summary Template, and the Due Diligence Review Form in Appendix B.
