Knowledge Management Project (EHKMP) 2005 - 2010
Water and Wells Focus Group
In April 2008, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Environmental Health Division (EHD), together with the EHKMP Steering Committee, identified stakeholder groups, including governmental agencies (state, local and federal), industry, not-for-profit groups, and academic institutions that frequently use and/or contribute to public water supply and private well data that is managed by the MDH. A total of 42 people representing 26 stakeholder groups were subsequently invited by the Director of the MDH Environmental Health Division to serve on the EHKMP Water and Wells Focus Group.
A total of 37 individuals representing 24 stakeholder groups accepted the invitation to participate in the EHKMP Water and Wells Focus Group. MDH staff from the Environmental Health Division, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control Division, Public Health Laboratory Division, and the Office of Communications assisted with the planning and conduct of the Focus Group meetings.
The EHKMP Water and Wells Focus Group was established to gain input from stakeholders as to how the value of environmental health data pertaining to Minnesota’s public water supplies and private wells might be improved.
Contributions to the Process
The EHKMP Water and Wells Focus Group met on two occasions. The first meeting, which was held on May 14, 2008, provided Focus Group participants an opportunity to get acquainted with one another and the project work they were embarking on. When Focus Group participants met for the second and final time on May 20, 2008, they were asked to respond to a series of questions regarding the exchange, sharing, and use of public water supply and private well environmental health data. The findings from the discussions among the Focus Group participants are presented in the EHKMP Water and Wells Focus Group Report (PDF: 708KB/43 pages).
