Industrial Radiographer Exams
Any individual who examines the structure of materials by nondestructive methods utilizing ionizing radiation (radioactive sources or x-rays) to make radiographic images must be certified if they operate in Minnesota. Certification means that individuals meet established radiation safety, testing, and experience criteria. (Note: Individuals who use a cabinet x-ray or an x-ray fluorescent analyzer are not required to be certified.) As part of the certification process, the Radioactive Materials Unit administers the Industrial Radiographer and Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) examination that is provided by the American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT). Tests can cover radioactive materials uses, x-ray technologies, or can be combination exams that cover the both applications. Each examination is 3 hours in length, totaling 100 questions related to the following topical areas:
