Silica Sand Mining and Health
During the 2013 legislative session, several laws were passed to address the potential environmental and health concerns related to silica sand mining and facilities. Per Chapter 114, Article 4, Section 105 (c), MDH was directed to adopt an air quality health-based value for silica sand by January 1, 2014. MDH completed review of respirable crystalline silica and released an air quality health-based value of 3 µg/m3 in July 2013.
