Flowing Well and Boring Special Construction Area

In 1995, the Minnesota Department of Health established a Flowing Well and Boring Special Construction Area for portions of Lakeport Township and Steamboat River Township in Hubbard County. Wells and borings installed along the southeast shore of Kabekona Lake and southwest of Benedict Lake, in areas below an elevation of 1320 feet above sea level, are likely to encounter high flows. Please refer to the memorandum for details on construction requirements for installing wells and borings within this area and to the map delineating this area.

Uncontrolled flows can cause serious land erosion and land subsidence problems, create unsafe conditions, damage drilling equipment and structures, and waste groundwater. Once a flow becomes out of control, it is often very difficult to regain control and even to reestablish the bore hole for completion of the well or boring.
