Approved (and pending) Upcoming Continuing Education Programs
Well Management Program

Training calendar updated monthly.

Continuing Education Requirements

Apply to license renewal of individual well contractors and certified representatives of limited well and boring contractors, monitoring well contractors, elevator boring contractors, and well contractors. Monitoring well contractors' registration expire December 31 of each year. All other well contractor license types have licenses that expire January 31 of each year.

The revisions to Minnesota Rules, chapter 4725, became effective on August 4, 2008. Two changes in continuing education requirements for license renewal took effect at that time:

  • The number of continuing education credits required annually for certified representatives of limited well/boring contractors and elevator boring contractors is now two credits. However, those two credits must be from a Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)-presented or MDH–sponsored program. Limited well/boring contractors include pump installers, pitless/screen contractors, dewatering well contractors, dug well/drive point contractors, well sealing contractors, vertical heat exchanger contractors.

  • Individual contractors and certified representatives for well contractors and monitoring well contractors must still obtain six credits of MDH-approved continuing education annually. Two of the six credits must be from a MDH-presented or MDH–sponsored program.

License/Registration Renewal

For license/registration renewal, all certified representatives and individual contractors must have obtained two hours of a MDH-presented or MDH-sponsored program in order to renew. Individual contractors and certified representatives for monitoring well contractors and well contractors must also obtain an additional four credits of MDH-approved continuing education (for a total of six credits).

A contact hour is granted for approved continuing education sessions when the training continues for 50 minutes. Continuing education contact hours cannot be "banked" or saved from previous years for future license or registration renewal. Sign-up sheets are usually used to document and verify attendance.

The continuing education activity must be related to wells and borings, drilling technology, groundwater contamination, health aspects of water quality, groundwater monitoring, geology, hydrology, well construction and sealing, water systems and water treatment, or other subjects approved by the MDH.

For additional information about any of these training opportunities, call the program's contact person. For other information about continuing education, new training opportunities, or to request approval for other continuing education activities not listed here, contact Norm Mofjeld, Well Management Section, at 651-201-4593.
