Hearing & Vision Screening Workshop

The Hearing and Vision Screening Workshop covers best practices for hearing and vision screenings, including recent updates and guidelines for referral. Additionally, a practicum is included with return demonstrations by the participants.

Intended Audience

This workshop is designed for individuals who perform hearing and vision screenings for Early Childhood Screening, Child and Teen Checkups, Schools, and other child health screenings.

Please bring your own Audiometer and Ophthalmoscope.

Objectives

At the end of this workshop the participant will be able to:

  1. Define vision and hearing screening and discuss its importance
  2. Name the recommended ages/grades for vision and hearing screening
  3. Demonstrate proper vision and hearing screening techniques
  4. List the age appropriate procedures and equipment/charts to use for the screening
  5. List age appropriate pass and refer criteria for each component

Agenda

8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Registration & Intro
9:00 a.m. - Noon Vision Screening
Noon - 1:00 p.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Hearing Screening
  • One 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon
  • Lunch is on your own.
  • A practicum will be incorporated into each segment.

Continuing Education Credit

This activity has been designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing requirements for 6 continuing education units. However, the nurse is responsible for determining whether or not this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.

Cancellation Policy

Full Refund
If MDH finds it necessary to cancel a workshop, a full refund will be issued.

Partial Refund (fee minus $25)
If a participant needs to cancel, MDH must receive notification at least 3 business days prior to the 1st day of the workshop.
