Examples of Eye Abnormalities that may be seen during External Inspection - Chalazion/Sties

Chalazion/Sties - An inflammation of an eyelash follicle.

The lids should be free of lumps (Chalazia).

There should not be redness or crustiness along the margin or signs of a sty.  This may not necessarily need a referral as this often will resolve with a warm compress. However, if it does not resolve with this, then a referral is necessary.
