Rationale for Wearing Glasses During Observation

If a child has prescription lenses, this screening procedure should be done while the child is wearing the glasses. To demonstrate the rationale for this, refer to the child pictured above. In the photo on the left, esotropia can be observed in the child's left eye. This condition meets criteria for referral. This child, however, has already been evaluated by an eye care professional and was prescribed corrective lenses. The second picture demonstrates that the lenses prescribed are effective in aligning the eyes. Therefore, no referral is necessary, as the esotropia was previously identified and treated.
