2011 Betty Hubbard Leadership Awards Presentation

The 2011 Betty Hubbard Leadership in Maternal and Child Health Awards were presented at the December 2, 2011 MCH Advisory Task Force meeting. The awards, presented by Commissioner Ed Ehlinger, recognize leadership in promoting good health for mothers, children and adolescents at the statewide and community levels.

Brigid Riley received the statewide award. Brigid served for seven years as executive director of Teenwise Minnesota. Teenwise Minnesota provides leadership in promoting adolescent sexual health, preventing adolescent pregnancy and gaining support for adolescent parents by developing, strengthening and advancing science-based policies and programs.

Danielle Le Bon Gort, the Maternal and Child Health Team Leader for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, received the community award for her work in maternal and child health within the Fond du Lac community and Minnesota’s northeast region.

Two others received recognition from the Commissioner and the MCH Advisory Task Force. Dr. Edward Maeder was recognized for over 40 years of services to the MDH by evaluating the causes of maternal death in Minnesota. Sandy Tubbs, Public Health Director for Douglas County, was recognized for her work helping the MDH move family home visiting forward in Minnesota.
