I should go to my healthcare provider for a Child and Teen Checkup when I am 4 years old to see if I am growing and healthy. I should also go to the dentist to protect my smile now and in the future.
Schedule an appointment for Early Childhood Screening .
- I CAN...
- Hop, stand on one foot and catch a ball
- Use a least 6-word sentences and ask questions
- Wash my hands without help
- Put together 7-12 piece puzzles
- Copy drawing a circle and a square
- Understand simple home rules and start to understand danger
- Use a fork and cup well
- Feed myself well

YOU CAN...
- Offer me 3 small meals a day plus healthy snacks; offer foods from all the food groups
- Buy fruits and vegetables for snacks instead of chips, cake, cookies, candy or pop
- Be a positive role model - eat a variety of healthy foods
- Eat with me at mealtime - turn off the TV and talk with me
- Give me water instead of pop, juice or sweetened drinks
- Eat meals and snacks at about the same time every day
- Let me help you shop for, prepare and serve meals
- Teach me where foods come from and how they are grown
- Clean my teeth twice a day using a small, soft toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste - teach me to spit it out
- TO KEEP ME SAFE & HEALTHY...
- Involve me in family chores such as raking leaves or walking the dog
- Play outside with me (play catch, tag or hopscotch)
- Talk to me about things I do and see
- Offer hugs and praise to reward me; don't use food as reward or punishment
- Read with me every day
- Give me opportunities to play with other children
- Let me make meaningful choices every day
- Give me crayons so I can practice drawing
- Tell me when to say please, thank you and sorry (use these words yourself and I will learn from you)
- Teach me how to deal with strangers
- Teach me about street, tricycle, and car seat safety
- Have home fire drills and check smoke detectors
- Limit my time watching TV, movies, playing video games or using the computer to 1 hour a day
