Appendix Q - Transmittal 19
HCFA Guidelines for Determining
Effective September 25, 2000
Appendix Q is being revised to reflect the HCFA's concern that crisis situations in which the health and safety of individuals are at risk be accurately identified and thoroughly investigated as quickly as possible. The new Guidelines standardize the definitions of Immediate Jeopardy, Abuse and Neglect across all provider types (excluding CLIA) and provide a detailed analysis of the steps that surveyors should follow to assist them in identifying situations that involve Immediate Jeopardy.
