Information Bulletin 04-17
The Federal Nursing Home Survey Process:
The Role Of The Nursing Assistant
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform nursing homes/certified boarding care homes (NH/BCH) that the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), with the assistance of Care Providers of Minnesota, has created a video that gives an overview of the federal survey process. The video, “The Federal Nursing Home Survey Process: The Role of the Nursing Assistant”, is available in two formats and can be purchased through MDH.
It is the goal of MDH to familiarize long term care staff with the survey process to help alleviate anxiety when survey staff is in your facility. It is important for NH/BCH staff to understand the reasons for the annual survey, so that surveyors and employees work together for a common goal. The ultimate goal of surveyors and facility staff is to assure the residents receive quality care.
A packet containing one VHS and one DVD will be mailed to each nursing home, board and care home, and approved Nursing Assistant Training Program in Minnesota sometime in October.
Additional copies of the video can be purchased through MDH. The cost of each VHS or DVD is $10.00.
The order form for purchasing additional copies, can be found on the HPICM website at http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fpc/profinfo/narinfo/videonar.html
The video is not mandatory, but the Department recommends that you include it as part of your in-service education.
Thank you for your assistance.
