All Minimum Data Set (MDS) Quarterly Assessments to be Used to Determine a Case Mix Classification for Payment

Effective Date: October 1, 2006

Purpose:

The purpose of this informational bulletin is to inform Medicaid certified nursing homes and board and care homes of a change made by the 2006 Minnesota Legislature to the case mix reimbursement program. Effective October 1, 2006, all Minimum Data Set (MDS) quarterly assessments will be used to generate a case mix classification. The case mix classification is used to establish the daily reimbursement rate for Medicaid and private pay residents.

All MDS Quarterly Assessments with an assessment reference date (ARD) on or after October 1, 2006, will be used for case mix and will have a payment effective date of the first of the month following the ARD date.

Facilities will not need to make any changes to the MDS submission process to implement this. The Case Mix Review Program will generate classification notices for all quarterly assessments with an ARD date on or after October 1, 2006.
