Infection Control F441

Revised Nursing Home Federal Guidance

Purpose:

The purpose of this Information Bulletin is to inform providers and other interested parties that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released new Nursing Home Survey Guidelines for Infection Control F441. Joint provider and surveyor training will be provided prior to the implementation of these guidelines by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in conjunction with stakeholder groups.

Implementation:

MDH surveyors and investigators will implement the revised guidance related to Infection Control effective November 30, 2009.

Joint Training:

MDH, in conjunction with Care Providers of Minnesota, Aging Services of Minnesota, The Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care, and Minnesota Directors of Nursing Association, is sponsoring three hour statewide videoconferences. This training will be broadcast twice and individuals need to attend only one session. There is no charge to attend this training.

The videoconferences will take place on Thursday, November 12, 2009 and Friday, November 13, 2009 from 9:00 AM until 12 Noon.

Videoconference Sites & Registration:

Individuals must arrive at the videoconference location at least 15-20 minutes prior to sign-in for CEUs. CEUs will be sent after the training via email for those who register and all individuals are asked to register.

Infection Control Resources & Handouts:

Resources for this training have been placed on the MDH Clinical Web Window and additional resources will be placed by Monday, November 9, 2009 under the heading “Infection Control”. Participants must bring their own handouts to the video conference training sessions. All participants should read these documents prior to the videoconference.
