Smart Choices! Programs for SagePlus Clients
Steps Program
SagePlus clients may choose to participate in a steps program. Participants try to increase their daily physical activity. Participants start at their current level, and work at their own pace. 10,000 steps a day is the recommended goal, but women can start – and end – at a level they choose.
SagePlus provides postage-paid cards for participants to report their steps. Participants may choose to track other physical activity by reporting the activity and the number of minutes.
The Steps Program offers:
- A pedometer
- A gift card at 1 million steps
- Increased awareness of physical activity level
- Improved health:
- Decreased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD)
- Decreased risk of diabetes
- Weight control is easier when you are active
- Being active helps prevent osteoporosis (bone loss)
Fruits and Vegetables Program
SagePlus clients may choose to participate in a fruits and vegetables program. Participants try to increase their daily intake of fruits and vegetables by substituting them for less healthy foods. Generally, women ages 40 to 64 should eat about 1 ½ cups of fruit and 2 – 2 ½ cups of vegetables daily. Most of us don’t get enough.
SagePlus provides postage-paid cards for participants to report their fruits and vegetables.
The Fruits and Vegetables program offers:
- A servings guide
- A gift card for reaching 1,000 servings
- Increased awareness of what you eat
- Improved health:
- Decreased risk of coronary heart disease (CVD)
- Decreased risk of diabetes
