The Foundation Center

Established by foundations as the single authoritative and comprehensive voice on philanthropic giving, the center houses a wealth of information, including detailed profiles on all foundations in the United States, their funding interests, assets, and grant allocations. Annual reports and IRS return forms are also available.

Several Minnesota Libraries are connected with the Foundation Center and house reference materials from the center. The Minneapolis Public Library has the state's most complete collection. It includes national, regional, and state grantmaker directories, grantwriting materials, information on funding trends, funders' annual reports, and 990-PF IRS reports filed by private foundations in Minnesota. Library staff can direct users to the collection, and for a nominal fee, can help with computer research. Other Minnesota collections are smaller, but contain materials similar to the Minneapolis library, except for IRS reports.
