Notice to MERC Sponsoring Institutions

National Provider Identification Numbers (NPI) and Medical Assistance Provider Identification Numbers (MAID) are required by Statute on the MERC Application.  This information is used to gather Medical Assistance claims data submitted to the Department of Human Services.  Since grant calculations are based on eligible identification numbers and related claims in the year in which training was completed, it is extremely important that the identification numbers are provided to the sponsoring institutions by the actual training site to ensure that the correct data is used in the grant calculation.

Some sites may have NPI numbers but not MAID numbers.  This may mean that the site is not registered with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Provider Enrollments area as a Minnesota Medical Assistance (MA) Provider.  If a training site does not provide services to Minnesota MA / GAMC / PMAP / PGAMC patients, they will not be eligible for the MERC grant.
