Acute Disease Investigation and Control Section
Section Mission: 1) to perform surveillance for communicable diseases, monitor trends and detect outbreaks, 2) to investigate outbreaks and eliminate sources, 3) provide technical assistance and education to the medical community in controlling communicable disease problems, 4) design and implement special epidemiologic studies to address specific issues related to the public health control of communicable diseases.
- Foodborne, Vectorborne, and Zoonotic Disease Unit
This unit trackscases of foodborne diseases, individual foodborne illness complaints, and outbreaks of foodborne illness; cases of arboviral encephalitis, tickborne diseases, rabies and other zoonotic diseases.

This unit tracks invasive bacterial infections, unexplained deaths and critical illnesses, and diseases that are not covered by the other units.

- Infection Control and Antibiotic Resistance Unit
This unit provides consultation to health care facilities upon request, assists with education and training projects, and provides advice on infection control issues in health settings across the continuum of health care. This unit also works with antibiotic resistance.
