Both presenters have been living with the disease for over 20 years and will share their personal and professional insights into the evolution of the HIV epidemic. Both have graciously agreed to recount their personal struggles and challenges in coming to terms with and successfully integrating HIV into their lives. This will be a great opportunity to get your questions answered about what it's like to live with HIV as well as our future challenges for providing care and services to persons living with HIV. We hope that your World AIDS Day observance will include this very personal glimpse into life with HIV.

This forum is free and open to the public and will feature author Mark Senak who works at the international communications firm of Fleishman-Hillard. Senak brings extensive experience in HIV policy with 14 years combined service with AIDS Project Los Angeles and prior to that with the Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York, the two largest HIV service providers in the nation. While there, Senak worked on campaigns that included advocacy as well as public health, in encouraging people to be tested and treated for HIV, having to target multiple and varied audiences as well as dealing with legal issues surrounding the emergence of HIV. As part of an ongoing effort to observe World AIDS Day and focus attention on the HIV epidemic, a community collaborative, is hosting two presentations by Dr. Robert Fullilove, Associate Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health, to talk about the impact of HIV on communities of color.  Dr. Fullilove will talk about the disproportionate impact of HIV on communities of color, the barriers to addressing this growing challenge and what we can do to provide appropriate care and prevention messages to these high risk communities.  Dr. Fullilove's presentations are open to anyone who has an interest in any aspect of HIV care or those who are interested in issues pertaining to addressing health disparities experienced by communities of color.  These presentations will be an opportunity to bring both providers and consumers together to have an open and honest dialogue about addressing this ongoing challenge.

The evening event will also feature a screening of the DVD "Getting Right with AIDS".  This locally produced DVD features HIV+ men and women from the African American community talking about their experiences as persons living with HIV/AIDS. Light refreshments and food will be served.

One Voice Mixed Chorus honors the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day with a special concert on December 5th and 6th. Presented jointly by One Voice and the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra, the concerts feature a wide range of musical styles, ranging from choral and orchestral to gospel and folk.  Both One Voice and the Philharmonic perform on their own, in addition to performing several large works for chorus and orchestra together. The African World AIDS Day Planning Committee is hosting its fifth annual event in observance of World AIDS Day. African residents representing several African nations will be enjoined in a unified World AIDS Day commemoration to raise awareness about the impact HIV and AIDS has had on Africans living here and in their respective countries. African physicians, community leaders and survivors will provide educational presentations. Performers, exhibitors and culturally specific foods will also be a part of the observance including a performance by Munnah LIB Princess. Munnah is a Liberian War Refugee who is a R&B/HipHop singer songwriter.  She speaks of her journey from Africa, the challenges she faces and the importance of making good decisions.
