Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration/ National Asian Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Observance – St. Paul

The purpose of the celebration is to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage month, in addition to National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (May 19th), and assessing the needs of program participants.  The celebration will include a program, resource information about Neighborhood House services, a short assessment of participant needs, light appetizers, and door prizes. Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling (1 day course)

This one day workshop has been designed to improve the ability of providers in a variety of settings to support individuals in making behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV.  Skills for administering risk assessments for HIV and STD testing will be learned and practiced. This training is a requirement for staff at agencies that are directly funded by MDH to implement HIV testing. This course will also benefit counselors, nurses, street outreach workers and social workers in a variety of settings such as family planning/community clinics, STD clinics, HIV testing clinics, chemical dependency programs and correctional institutions. Participants are expected to have a basic foundation of knowledge of HIV transmission and prevention.

HIV Test Results Training (1 day course)

This one day course will benefit staff that perform HIV testing and provide results to clients. This workshop builds on the skills acquired during the “Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling” workshop. The course will discuss the HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral Guidelines and indications for routine and/or targeted testing. In addition, it will address the issues of clients who receive positive and negative HIV test results. 

This training is a requirement for staff at agencies that are directly funded by MDH to implement HIV testing.  The “Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling” course is a prerequisite.  Participants are expected to have a basic foundation of knowledge of HIV transmission and prevention.
