Electronic Disease Reporting
The Minnesota Communicable Disease Reporting Rule requires medical professionals report patients who have communicable diseases of public health importance to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
This page contains documents to encourage automated reporting for communicable diseases. Documents include a request for grant applications, an implementation guide and instructions on file format and transferring data to MDH.
There are 87 reportable communicable diseases in Minnesota, 18 of these should be reported immediately by telephone to MDH, all other diseases and additional information on any report can be electronically reported. Additionally, there are other reportable conditions such as birth defects or trauma that could be included in automated reporting if the healthcare facility chooses to do so.
