How State Agencies are Creating Opportunities for Health
The Healthy Minnesota 2020 Statewide Health Improvement Framework advocates a conversation about health that involves all sectors of Minnesota communities, so that together we can create the conditions that assure all people can be healthy. Ed Ehlinger is the current Commissioner of Health; he will be joined by state agency commissioners in discussing what their departments do to create opportunities for health.

Commissioner Edward P. Ehlinger
Minnesota Dept. of Health
Governor Mark Dayton appointed Ed Ehlinger to serve as Minnesota Commissioner of Health in January 2011. Prior to being appointed commissioner, Ed served as director and chief health officer for Boynton Health Service at the University of Minnesota, from 1995 to 2011. He has also served as an adjunct professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the U of M School of Public Health. From 1980 to 1995, Ed served as director of Personal Health Services for the Minneapolis Health Department.
Commissioner Tom Landwehr
Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources
Gov. Dayton appointed Tom Landwehr as Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in January 2011. He served as a City Council Member and as an Instructor at the University of Minnesota's School of Natural Resources, and for seventeen years at DNR both as a scientist and as a Wildlife Manager. After leaving DNR in 1999 he was State Conservation Director for Ducks Unlimited in Minnesota and Iowa until 2003 and most recently has served as Assistant State Director for The Nature Conservancy in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. He has also served on the Shoreview City Council where he served from 1995 to 2002.
Commissioner John Linc Stine
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
John Linc Stine was appointed Commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) by Gov. Dayton effective May 2012. Stine joined the MPCA in March 2011 as Deputy Commissioner. Prior to joining the MPCA, John served as Assistant Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Health where he was responsible for overseeing the department's public health emergency preparedness, environmental health, infectious disease prevention/control and the public health laboratory functions. John also worked for 25 years with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a hydrologist and administrator specializing in shoreland, flood plain, and wild and scenic river programs, water resource management and regulation. John also served as Assistant Director of the Trails and Waterways division.
Commissioner Charles A. Zelle
Minnesota Dept. of Transportation
Charles Zelle was appointed Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) in December 2012 by Gov. Dayton. Charles came to MnDOT from Jefferson Lines, an intercity bus company with routes in 13 heartland states from Minnesota to Texas. He worked there for more than 20 years, and served as President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2012, Charles served on the Governor's Transportation Finance Advisory Committee, which made recommendations on state transportation funding to the Governor in December.
