Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Component

EMS services are vital to rural communities and an essential element of emergency preparedness. Flex-funded EMS projects help rural EMS providers with challenges like staff recruitment, retention and training, and operations issues such as reimbursement and environmental hazard management. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) portion of the Minnesota Flex Program focuses on:

  • Increasing collaboration and developing partnerships among stakeholders
  • Educating EMS staff about Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) and the Flex Program
  • Maintaining a strong relationship with the state Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board, EMS data collection and workforce development
  • Supporting rural EMS leadership and sustainability
  • Supporting the integration of EMS and CAHs in the provision of emergency medical services for Time Critical Diagnoses (Stroke, STEMI, Heart Attack, Trauma)
  • Assessing emergency medical services needs in rural Minnesota
