Loan Forgiveness Programs in Minnesota

The Office of Rural Health and Primary Care offers several loan forgiveness (repayment) programs to health care students or residents. We are also administering the Rural Veterinarian Loan Forgiveness Program.

Rural Physician

 

RESIDENTS in Pediatric, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Psychiatric, or OB/GYN programs

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum in rural area

$25,000

Urban Physician

 

RESIDENTS in Pediatric, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Psychiatric, or OB/GYN programs

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum in federally designated urban Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or Medically Underserved Area (MUA)

$25,000

Rural Midlevel Practitioner

STUDENTS in NP, PA, CNM, Nurse Anesthetist & Advanced CNS Programs

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum in rural area

$6,750

Nurse

STUDENTS in RN and LPN programs

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum in nursing homes or ICF/MRs

$3,750

Allied Health Care Tech and Nurse Faculty

Individuals studying to teach in allied health care or advanced nursing

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum as postsecondary faculty

Rural Pharmacist

STUDENTS and RESIDENTS in Pharmacy Programs
or Licensed Pharmacists

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum in rural area

Dentist

STUDENTS and RESIDENTS in Dental Programs or Licensed Dentists

Serve 3 years minimum/4 years maximum. 25% of patient visits are public programs or sliding fee scale

2 years minimum (cannot coincide with any other service obligation) in federally designated HPSA, rural or urban

$25,000

Minnesota State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

PC Physicians, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, CNMs, CMs, NPs, PAs, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Psychiatrists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychiatric Nurse Specialists, Marriage & Family Therapists

2 years minimum (cannot coincide with any other service obligation) federally designated HPSA, rural or urban
