Health workforce policy and research examine the adequacy of supply and distribution of providers in terms of health care access.

The per capita measurement of physician assistant-to-population ratio is one approach to estimating the distribution of the physician assistant workforce. Ratios can be used to make comparisons among counties that differ in population size.
