HEALTH REFORM
MDH is asking for comments on the Minnesota Community Measurement preliminary recommendations for physician clinic and ambulatory surgical center measures by May 15.

MDH is requesting grant proposals for two health care homes projects by May 16.

Rural Health Information Technology Grant Program applications are due May 27. A technical assistance call is 1 p.m. May 10. Call 888 -577-8992. The Passcode is HIT.

The Greater Minnesota Telehealth Broadband Initiative (GMTBI) is Minnesota's FCC Rural Health Care Pilot Program project connecting 144 hospitals, clinics and mental health centers on a dedicated broadband network for health information exchange. Minnesota Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, 2010 is ORHPC's Health Care Workforce Analysis Program's latest release (PDF: 581KB/22pgs)

In 2010, most Minnesota-based work sites of nurse practitioners (NPs) were split between provider clinics (48 percent) and hospitals (27 percent). The sites became more concentrated in clinical or office-based practices as work locations became more rural, with 44 percent of urban NPs working in clinics compared to 76 percent in isolated rural areas.

STAFF NEWS
Craig Baarson
is serving on the Rural Health Clinic Technical Assistance Advisory Team to the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. The team includes representatives from nine other states.

Chris Ballard made trauma hospital site visits to Madison Hospital, Minnesota Valley Health Center in Le Sueur, St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee and Sanford Luverne Medical Center. A complete list of Minnesota trauma hospitals is online.

Angie Sechler attended the National Oral Health Conference, focusing on dental health safety net and dental workforce.

Kristen Tharaldson spoke to this year's Rural Voices Leadership and Policy Workshop about her experience in the workshop last year. Read Kristen's article Rural Voices: Step Up. Speak Out from the summer 2010 issue of the ORHPC Quarterly.

Karen Welle attended the Greater Minnesota Telehealth Broadband Initiative (GMTBI) Steering Committee meeting, hosted by Northern Pines Mental Health Center in Brainerd.

Community Connect Grant Program applications are due May 3 to provide unserved areas with broadband for economic growth and educational, health care and public safety services.

Minnesota's Young Student Parent Support Initiative applications are due May 24 for colleges to help pregnant and parenting students.

Health Careers Opportunity Program applications are due May 25 to help individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds enter a health profession.
