Minnesota Health Workforce Demographics
MINNESOTA’S AGING DENTIST WORKFORCE
- The median age of active Minnesota dentists increased from 44 in 1994 to 50 in 2005.
- Fifty-two percent were 50 years or older in 2005, compared to only 32 percent in 1993.
The peak numbers of dentists were between 48 and 53 in 2005. There were only 57 percent as many dentists aged 35-44 as aged 45-54. There appears to be some recovery of dentist numbers in the age group that was about 31 to 35 in 2005. It is difficult to tell if this partial recovery in dentist numbers has continued, because dentists typically don’t start practice until their late 20s.
