MINNESOTA’S AGING PHYSICIAN WORKFORCE
- The median age of active Minnesota physicians increased from 42 in 1993 to 48 in 2005.
- Forty-five percent were 50 years or older in 2005, compared to only 28 percent in 1993.
The peak numbers of physicians were in their late 40s and early 50s in 2005. There were 88 percent as many physicians aged 35-44 as aged 45-54. Because of the length of medical education, there are few physicians under age 30.
