SHIP stories

Local residents talk about how SHIP is making a difference:

Stacey Kruger chose to partner with the SHIP childcare project and has attended one of three classes, has completed an assessment, and has already submitted policy changes which she is implementing! Stacey says, "SHIP will brighten the future of our young children. I am proud to be part of this program and cannot wait to teach my knowledge to the youngsters in my care."

"I received a text from a parent apologizing for her child's birthday treat that she was sending to school the next day. She explained that she had taken her daughter to the store to pick out something from the bakery to bring to school for her birthday but her daughter insisted that she could not bring cookies or cupcakes because those were ‘sometimes’ foods and she should bring a healthy treat. The little girl decided that watermelon would be a great birthday treat and so we had watermelon cubes for her birthday. I was very excited that she had listened so carefully to our health lessons and was able to apply them to her life." – Rebecca Wagner
