A Doula's Story


I am a certified childbirth doula who supports families as they prepare for and birth their children. During prenatal visits we talk about common procedures carried out during labor and the immediate post partum period. I help families learn about the benefits, risks and alternatives to the many procedures they encounter. When discussing newborn screening and the specimen collection families are often astounded at the extensive benefits of newborn screening. Parents feel good knowing that by choosing newborn screening they are helping their baby get the best start possible, and I feel good knowing that they are making a fully informed decision. - Kathy Chinn, CD (DONA)
