Don't Prepare Food if You are Ill

Don't be a source of foodborne illness.

Pathogens can be introduced into food from infected humans who handle the food without thoroughly washing their hands after going to the bathroom. These pathogens are thus transferred from trace amounts of fecal matter present on hands to the food.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food.
  • Changing a baby’s diaper while preparing food is a bad idea and can easily spread illness.

  • Don't prepare food for others if you are ill.
    • Avoid preparing food for others if you yourself have a illness with diarrhea or vomiting,
or if you have had such an illness in the last three days.

  • Foodworker Illness Awareness
Food workers who prepare food while experiencing diarrhea and/or vomiting are frequently linked to foodborne illness outbreaks in restaurants and other retail food outlets. As a food manager or worker you have a responsibility to protect yourself and your guests from foodborne illness.
