Safe or Sorry Sponsors
Teachers across the state have been trained at twenty-one videoconference locations on use of the Safe or Sorry (SOS) food safety curriculum developed by the Minnesota Department of Health.
This project is a collaborative effort of the MDH Food Safety Center, the Minnesota Food Safety Task Force, three state agencies, food industry partners, local public health agencies, the University of Minnesota Extension Service, the Food and Drug Administration, and the United States Department of Agriculture.
Sponsors are: Cargill, Hormel, Lund Food Holdings, Schwan’s, Deli Express, General Mills, Malt-O-Meal, MN Grocer’s Association, MN Farm Bureau, MN Beef Council, Applebee’s, Border Foods, International Multi Foods, Seneca Foods, Taher Inc., Land O' Lakes, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota Department of Health.
Minnesota held Food Safety Month kick off events for students in September of 2002, 2003 and 2004. The events, held at Marshall Junior High School, Crookston Highland School, Monroe Community School in St. Paul, and Hubert Olson Middle School in Bloomington continued a two-year statewide effort to train teachers, educate children and place donated food safety tool kits in each public school district in the state.
