2. Healthy Sexuality, Healthy Youth!, October 4 & 11, 2007

Sexuality can be one of the most difficult topics for adults to discuss with youth. Yet young people desperately need adults to be comfortable in talking with them openly and honestly about sex and sexuality so that they receive accurate information. Research tells us that youth who are able to talk with trusted and caring adults are more likely to delay sex, avoid unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and pursue healthy relationships. So, what role can you play in helping young people better understand healthy relationships and sexuality? Join us as we explore ways in which adults can more effectively partner with youth to help them learn the facts around sexual health. In this interactive and lively workshop we will discuss:

* Components of human sexuality ("sexuality" is not just "sex")
* Normative adolescent sexual development
* Communication strategies for discussing sexual health topics with youth

Audience: Adults working with youth
Facilitator: Brooke Stelzer, Health Education Director at the Annex Teen Clinic
Dates and Times: Thursday, October 4 & Thursday, October 11.  Both sessions are 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Training held at the Merrick East Side Community Center in St. Paul.
Cost & Registration: Training is $80 for registrations received on or before September 20. All registrations received on September 21 or later are $90. Register at www.youthworkinstitute.org

6. New Book Announcement: Prostitution and Trafficking in Nevada: Making the Connections, Melissa Farley, Ph.D.

"No one really enjoys getting sold," a woman in a legal Nevada brothel told Melissa Farley during the course of this research. "It's like you sign a contract to be raped."

In a 2-year research study of Nevada legal and illegal prostitution and sex trafficking, Farley reveals new information about the scope of the sex industry. She describes human rights violations against women in the Nevada legal brothels and how the multibillion-dollar illegal sex industry in Las Vegas works.  She makes connections between legal and illegal prostitution, prostitution and sex trafficking, advertising for prostitution, political corruption, pornography, and organized crime.

Prostitution and Trafficking in Nevada: Making the Connections, is a riveting analysis of the enormous human tragedy associated with prostitution and sexual trafficking and the complex forces that shape and sustain them.

Ordering information:
Prostitution & Trafficking in Nevada will be available for online order in September 2007. To be notified of the publication date and order details, send an email to nevadabook@prostitutionresearch.com

All proceeds from sales of the book will go to two nonprofit organizations:  Prostitution Research & Education and Nevada Coalition against Sex Trafficking.   www.prostitutionresearch.com
