Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training Program, June 19-22, 2006

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training Program, will be held on June 19-22, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Express, Bemidji, MN. The SANE Training Program is sponsored by the Family Advocacy Center of Northern Minnesota and North Country Health Services.

Who should attend: Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives and law enforcement, district attorneys, sexual assault advocates. For information contact: North Country Health Services, (218) 333-5578.

Two advanced online courses on human trafficking and slavery, Summer and Fall 2006

This summer and fall, two advanced online courses on human trafficking and slavery will be offered at the University of Rhode Island. The courses will be taught entirely online, so you can enroll and complete these courses from anywhere in the world. These courses are appropriate for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals working in the field.

Summer 2006
May 22 to July 28, 2006
Human Trafficking and Contemporary Slavery (WMS 490)
This course focuses on contemporary human trafficking and slavery, including sex trafficking, bonded labor, forced labor, child soldiers, and domestic servant slavery. During the Summer session, the University of Rhode Island offers a substantial reduction in the tuition rate. Fall 2006
Sept 6 to Dec 11, 2006
Campaigns and Services for Victims of Trafficking and Slavery (WMS 490)
This course focuses on historical and contemporary campaigns for ending human trafficking and slavery and on providing services to contemporary victims of human trafficking and slavery.

These advanced level courses on human trafficking and slavery are intended to become part of a Graduate Certificate in Human Trafficking and Human Rights. The course and certificate proposals have been approved by the Women's Studies Program at the University of Rhode Island. Final approval by the URI Board of Governors is expected by the end of the next academic year.

For parents who have been paying attention to the explosive popularity of online teen hangout MySpace.com, make sure you log into YouTube.com as well. This online video-sharing site is another popular website where teenagers can "express themselves." While YouTube.com and other video sharing sites can be fun places for teenagers to share their digital creations, things can get out of hand on this unsupervised online environment where pushing the envelope is considered cool.
