The next SVPN meeting will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007 from 10:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., at the Division of Indian Work (DIW) www.gmcc.org/diw 1001 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407, 612-733-8722.

MDH Costs of Sexual Violence in Minnesota report to be released in May
The MDH Costs of Sexual Violence in Minnesota report, previously scheduled for release in April, will not be available for release until late May. This report is based on research carried out during 2005 and 2006 by Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) in consultation with Native American and Alaska Native organizations and individuals. The research draws on Amnesty International’s interviews with survivors of sexual violence and their families, activists, support workers, service providers and health workers.

Sexual Victimization Experienced By Eighteen Percent Of Young Women, From Medical News Today
Researchers at the University at Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions report that 18 percent of young women recruited into a study experienced sexual victimization in a two-year period. Victimization was defined as unwanted sexual contact, verbally coerced sex, rape or attempted rape. Among this group, the majority (approximately 66 percent) stated that their victimization was perpetrated by an intimate partner. Funding is provided to nonprofit programs that impact any of the following areas: arts, early childhood reading and family violence prevention. Applicant must be located in communities where Target does business and must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3). Average grant amount ranged from $1,000-$3,000.
