Sexual Violence Prevention Program
Sexual violence is a major public health issue that affects everyone, directly or indirectly, and results in long-term social and economic costs.
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and many partners are working together on initiatives and activities as part of the state plan (The Promise of Primary Prevention of Sexual Violence) to prevent sexual violence in Minnesota.

Sexual violence, including rape, is preventable. Recognizing this, Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act in 1994. This landmark legislation established the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) program at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The goal of the RPE program is to strengthen sexual violence prevention efforts. It operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and six U.S. territories.
