ALEPH Upgrade
A planned upgrade to a new version of the ALEPH software will soon be completed. This upgrade has brought about a significant change in a Windows-based interface for the various modules utilized by library staff. Mark Smith (Systems, Cataloging, and Serials) is providing the guidance and training needed so that the ALEPH version 17 upgrade goes without a hitch.
Change in Library Hours
The Barr Library in the Golden Rule Building is making the following change in the hours it will be open for January - March 2007. Please note that the Golden Rule location will now be open 1 more hour each week (21 hours) when compared with the present schedule of 20 hours a week. It is possible that Tuesday hours may shortly be added as well.
New Hours
Mondays 8:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m.
Wednesdays 8:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m.
Thursdays 8:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m.
The scheduling change is being made to provide more hours of library service to MDH employees in the Golden Rule Building. It also has the benefit of keeping staff from needing to take walks in some bitterly cold days.
Evaluation of new and old schedules will be conducted.
Interagency Agreement Signed
The R. N. Barr Library has entered into an interagency agreement with the Minnesota Board of Nursing (MBN). The Barr Library will provide document delivery service, literature searching as requested, Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service for no cost requests, and 24/7 work desktop access to most electronic resources available at MDH. MBN with its 23 employees has paid an affordable upfront library service charge of $2,000 to secure Barr Library services and access to resources for roughly 12 months. MBN has further agreed to provide the necessary funds for MBN mandated new purchases/subscriptions for the Barr Library collection and for ILL requests requiring payment to be made to another library. This initial interagency agreement will undoubtedly serve as the basis for future agreements between MBN and MDH. Both the Barr Library staff and MBN employees are enthusiastic about the partnership.
Subscription Cancellations
Print subscriptions of the following have been cancelled for the R. N. Barr Library. Volumes or editions will not be received for 2007.
