Emergency Preparedness Communications
Communication to the public is critically important in public health emergency preparedness. Communications, especially “public information and warning”, is one of 15 public health emergency preparedness capabilities developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). During a crisis, federal, state, and local public health agencies must use a variety of public information strategies to inform the community of the incident, in order to get community members to take appropriate actions to stay safe and healthy.
This webpage provides links to state and national emergency preparedness communications resources. The resources listed here were developed for public health professionals. CDC Crisis and Emergency Risk Communications (CERC)
The right message at the right time from the right person can save lives. CDC’s Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) draws from lessons learned during past public health emergencies and research in the fields of public health, psychology, and emergency risk communication. CDC’s CERC program provides trainings, tools, and resources to help health communicators, emergency responders, and leaders of organizations communicate effectively during emergencies.
