Many Voices-One Goal...Mental Health: A Public Health Issue

A statewide mental health forum for Populations of Color and American Indians

When:
August 22, 2008

Forum goal:

To explore how public health can work more closely with mental health to provide culturally congruent and linguistically appropriate services to populations of color and American Indians living in Minnesota

Objectives:

  • Identify the needs and gaps with the existing public and mental health services for populations of color and American Indians;
  • Discuss successful mental health service models in Minnesota and how public health and mental health can work together to address health disparity issues and better serve populations of Color and American Indians
  • Provide an opportunity to health care professionals working for local governments, non-profits, health plan providers, community leaders, school nurses and others who are interested in the area to develop strategies and specific recommendations to improve upon the current health care and mental health systems that will address mental health needs of populations of color and American Indians and those of whom also suffer from chronic illnesses
