Public Health Career Stories
About this Web Page
We've created this section of the Pathways website to give you a sneak peek into the many different paths that public health professionals have taken to arrive at their careers. We hope that the stories you read will help get you started on your own pathway to a public health career.
We will periodically feature different professionals, working in a different sub-specialty of the field.

Getting Started
Meeting people and hearing their career stories can be a great way to figure out if you would be interested in the same type of work. When considering a new career, it's always a good idea to interview someone working in that area, to shadow them while they work, or to get some other type of hands-on experience.
There are a number of ways to find people to talk to about their careers in public health. You could start by contacting your local public department or speaking with someone at one of the many state and national professional associations of public health.

Share Your Story
Results from the Minnesota Pathways Project (supported by a grant the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) suggest that people are more likely to consider pursuing a career in public health if they can personally relate to the story of someone in the field. By sharing the rich and varied experiences of public health professionals in Minnesota, we hope to inspire the next generation of professionals.
We are interested in featuring stories from people of all personal backgrounds, from all sub-specialties of the field, working in the state and local health agencies, at all different points in their careers.
If you are a public health professional in Minnesota, and would like to share your story (or know someone who would), please send us an email!
In your email, please include the following information:
- Your name;
- Your credentials (list degrees and certifications);
- Your public health specialty area;
- The agency you work for;
- How long you've worked in public health; and
- What first attracted you to a career in the field of public health.
When we respond to your email, we'll let you know if we are interested in using your story and will arrange a time to interview you. [back to top] |
