School Health: A Foundation for Learning

This program is designed to help young people grow into healthy and productive adults by focusing on the physical, emotional, social, and educational development of children in kindergarten through 12th grade. A coordinated approach to school health improves students’ health and their capacity to learn through the support of schools, families and communities working together.
The Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health are collaborating partners in this endeavor. On our site you can find information on H1N1 influenza updates, tools to link health and learning, upcoming trainings, workshops, conferences and resources on HIV/AIDS/STDs, teen pregnancy prevention, physical activity, nutrition, tobacco and more topics that are interconnected with a healthy learning environment.

This program provides consultation and information to schools about a variety of environmental health hazards to promote healthy learning environments in kindergarten through 12th grade. Healthy School Environments programs include:
MDH's School Health Nursing program provides consultation and technical assistance. Requests for school health and policy consultation typically come from school nurses, school staff and administrators, parents, families, and students themselves. Consultation can be conducted on an individual basis or with larger groups and organizations.
